World Primer
This is the minimum of what you need to know about the setting. Read the detailed pages for more information.
The Empire
Section titled “The Empire”The Orican Empire controls the continent. In days past, southern city states warred for land and the right to rule, but now they have been unified into a republic. There is an imperator, a senate, an aristocracy, guilds, and serfs.
The Medieval Era
Section titled “The Medieval Era”The capital in Southmarch evokes qualities of the late Medieval, but the further north you look the more locations evoke earlier medieval aspects. In this sense, Northmarch is most akin to an early Medieval landscape.
Northmarch
Section titled “Northmarch”Northmarch is a rough, undeveloped land just south of a massive mountain range. The people are poorer, the land is less populated, and the region has a growing monster problem. Villages may have anywhere from 50 to 1000 people, all of whom are suspicious or even superstitious regarding hunters.
Gods and Monsters
Section titled “Gods and Monsters”There are many races of peoples across the world and many faiths, but a commonality among faiths is that the Gods created all people’s in their image (humanoids). The most dominant religion is that of The Kindled. This faith splits its pantheon into Dawn Gods and Dusk Gods. The Dawn Gods wanted the best for sentient life and the Dusk Gods viewed it as a first step and sought to create more powerful forms of life. To us, these creatures are monsters.
Hunter’s Guild
Section titled “Hunter’s Guild”This guild is feared and reviled by most. While it is still viewed as a “necessity” by the Imperator, it has few supporters in the Senate and Aristocracy. Common folk hate the guild as well. After all, hunters are instructed to take their pay by violent means if necessary.
Hunter Mutations
Section titled “Hunter Mutations”Hunters are considered “mutants” from odd physical changes they alone appear to have. This is a result of the Trial of the Current. Few outside of the Hunter’s Guild know the truth of it.
